essay # 2

No blog this week since I would like you to get started on your essay. Remember essay # 2 is due at the beginning of class on April 6th ( a week from Wednesday).

Essay #2 is similar to your first essay in that I am looking for strong evidence of critical thinking via close reading of the text (in this case Invisible Bride)

There are various approaches. For example, you could look at how the sentence is used in Invisible Bride and highlight/focus on a specific poem/section. You could also examine how the structure of aphorisms are used (and sunverted) or how images are employed (remember the idea of a system of images).

Two important elements of your paper:

1) remember, as I wrote on many of your first essays, to examine the HOW in order to get at the WHAT.

2) develop a strong thesis to guide your explorations/discussions. Make sure everything connects back to this thesis.

Also, try to think of these essays as descriptive (the what) rather than evaluative (this is good, this is not good etc.)

While your essays are not a review of Invisible Bride (again, more descriptive than evaluative) here are some reviews of Invisible Bride that demonstrates some good critical thinking/close reading:
