Another option for your essay

First, for all of you folks who drove all the way from Greensboro for the reading last night a big thanks. I'll pass around a sheet on Monday, so make sure to sign it if you attended the reading.

Second, one week from tomorrow your big essay is due (Monday May 2nd). As a whole, you have all worked hard this semester. I realize new ways of reading and hearing and seeing language requires a lot of work and perhaps frustration. So, I want to give you a little break.

YOU CAN WRITE TWO THREE PAGE ESSAYS INSTEAD OF ONE ESSAY COMPARING SLEEPING WITH THE DICTIONARY AND RING OF FIRE. JUST STAPLE THE TWO ESSAYS TOGETHER. REMEMBER THE ESSAY (OR ESSAYS) IS DUE AT THE BEGINNING OF CLASS ON MONDAY MAY 2ND.

So the two choices are:

1) One essay comparing the structure of one of the poems from Ring of Fire and one of the poems from Sleeping with the Dictionary. Structure includes the items I wrote on the board last week such as sound, repetition etc. This essay should be a min of 5 pages and a max of 7 pages

2) Write two three page essay (like the previous essays). One essay on Sleeping with the Dictionary and one essay on Ring of Fire. Staple both together.

Again, demonstrate a close attention to the language. Not a line by line disection for "meaning."
